The Gas Chamber

You are stripped naked…told that you are to be cleaned, and as you walk along the gate to the shower room with the rest of your group, you feel your heart trembling at the thought of what might become of you. When you arrive at the showers the rough Nazi soldiers crowd everyone into one fairly large room, though it seemed so small with the large assembly in there. Seeing the faucets you, for a split second, hope that what the Nazis said was true. The heavy door closes with a sickening thud, and you can hear the sucking of air as you are sealed tightly into the room. Darkness meets your eyes, and the only thing you hear is the soft wailing and crying of children and their mothers, and the heavy breathing of the cluster of Jews, that seems to seep down your neck. Expecting to here the faucets turn on and feel water, everyone startles at the unfamiliar sound of hissing…like air leaking through a crack in the wall. Hearts begin to pound and sweat breaks out on your forehead. Then the sound of coughing is heard…wheezing as small children gasp for air trying to yell for their mother as the life is choked out of them. Hearing their small bodies fall, mothers begin to scream, followed by mass chaos, as people try to climb over others for their lives, the deadly gases continuing to rise. Gulping precious air, you are shoved to the ground, breaking out in your own fit of coughing and gasping as you inhale the deadly fumes. Your throat and eyes begin to burn, so painful you try to cry out, but your throat becomes suddenly dry, and as you try to swallow no moisture is given to your constricting throat and you slowly, painfully begin to suffocate. Then, through the continuous hissing and coughing of chaotic people, all sounds begin to painfully fade away, your heartbeat begins to slow and consciousness is pulled from your grasp.
